Hypnosis, or in my field, hypnotherapy, has as many uses as there are problems and probably as many definitions.
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness and heightened responsiveness to suggestion; or it can be explained this way:
When a person is in a relaxed state, the conscious mind is able to be bypassed in order to directly make suggestions to the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind then accepts these suggestions and creates the behavior or body changes in order to achieve the given suggestions.
Applications of hypnotherapy include but are not limited to:
- Pain management
- Child birth
- Raising self esteem
- Anxiety and Phobias
- Elimination of habits e.g. smoking and overeating
- Sleep Disturbances
- Sexual Dysfunction
- Relationship Problems
